Haochen Zeng is a senior (’22) majoring in CS Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Business Analytics. He is the director for DandyHacks 2021, the annual hackathon event at UR, as well as the Event Chair for Outing Club. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, gaming, reading maps, and working with Unreal Engine. He’s currently working on improving his skills in GeoGuessr.

Emily Sherwood is the Director of Digital Scholarship and Studio X. Previously, she was the Assistant Director of Digital Pedagogy and Scholarship at Bucknell University. Emily has attended CLIR/Educause’s Leading Change Institute and is a former CLIR Postdoctoral Fellow. She has a Ph.D. in English from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and a MA in Shakespearean Studies from King’s College London. As principal investigator for the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) funded New York Data Carpentries Library Consortium Planning Grant, Emily works with colleagues from Rochester, Syracuse, Colgate, and Cornell to extend data literacy in central and western New York.

Hey everyone! My name is Mila, and I’m an XR Specialist at Studio X. I’m a sophomore at UR majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Psychology. I’m also an international student from Russia, and prior to coming to study in the U.S., I lived in Armenia for two years studying in UWC Dilijan. On campus, I’m a part of the HCI Lab, Girls Who Code, and Sailing team.

Nefle Nesli Oruç is an undergraduate student majoring in Data Science and Digital Media Studies. She is a Karp Library Fellow for the River Campus Libraries and a member of Studio X team as the Public Programs Coordinator. She supports Studio X by designing outreach and branding materials, as well as teaching workshops and promoting community engagement events. Outside of Studio X, she works on projects on game development and 3D computer graphics and works as a Digital Media Specialist at the Rettner Media Lab.

My name is Liam O’Leary, and I am part of class 2023, majoring in Digital Media Studies. I am passionate about XR technologies and the future of virtual design. In my spare time, I develop VR games in Unity and I love to draw.

Waleed Nadeem, XR Specialist

Waleed is a Junior (’23) majoring in Business Information Systems and Digital Media Studies. He is the President of the Digital Media Studies Advisory Board (MEDIA) and the Technical Lead for the Google Developer Students Club. He is really passionate about digital literacy and access to emerging technologies for everyone. In his free time, he likes to play video games, learn about new technologies, watch FC Barcelona matches, and explore Rochester. He is currently waiting for the release of Age of Empires 4.

Koshala is a student at the University of Rochester (23′), majoring in Digital Media Studies. Previously, she was a biomedical engineering major for two years, was involved with research at the Haptics Lab, and was a member of Society of Women Engineers. She was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in New York. In her free time, she enjoys reading, eating ramen, and hanging out with her friends. 

Muhammed El-Sayed, XR Developer

Muhammed El-Sayed is an undergraduate from Egypt currently pursuing a major in Computer Engineering and a minor in History. After working with a team to develop a 2D historical game based on the settlement of Bermuda by the British, he has picked up developing in the Unity Engine in his free time, participating in GameJams and his own personal projects. He is the Immersive Technologies Developer through the Karp Library Fellowship program.

Ayiana Crabtree, XR Research Fellow & XR Specialist

Ayiana Crabtree is an XR Research Fellow and XR Specialist for Studio X through the Karp Library Fellowship program. She is a student at the University of Rochester (‘22) majoring in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and minoring in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. She has previously worked as a Library Intern for the Robbins Library and the Career Exploration in Librarianship and Mentoring (CEILAM) Program at the University of Rochester. She is also the current president of the Anime Interest Floor. In her free time, she enjoys playing games on the Oculus Quest 2 and reading.
